Dr. L. Matthew Frank
American Board of Pediatrics
American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology
Medical School: University of Connecticut
Residency: Duke University School of Medicine
Fellowship: Boston University/Boston City Hospital
Dr. Frank has been with CHKD and Eastern Virginia Medical School
since 1978. He has progressed from instructor to professor of neurology in the
department of pediatrics and for a time was director of the neurology training
program while that was in existence at the medical school.
He has been involved
in a number of clinical and research areas and was one of the
leaders in establishing cranial ultrasonography as a new diagnostic test at the CHKD. He has been involved the MDA
Clinic since his arrival at CHKD and has been the director of the
Tidewater Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic for a number of years. He has also attended the MDA summer camp for two decades.
clinical practice is that of a sub-specialized child neurologist who sees the
full range of children, understanding that the reason for which a child is
referred often does not reflect the ultimate diagnosis (and for that reason, he
tries to avoid specific diagnosis-based clinics).
Dr. Frank shares credit with
his division members in the excellent scores that our pediatric trainees
receive in the neurology subsections of their pediatric training program
testing. Division members also take pride in the training and expertise of our
staff both in our outpatient department and our award winning EEG lab.
On a personal note, Dr. Frank and his wife have three wonderful children and two exceptional
grandchildren that give him great pleasure.
