Over-bundling

It's important to protect your baby from the cold. But over-bundling during sleep can cause overheating and increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

These tips will help you keep your baby nice and warm without overdoing it:

  1. As a general rule, your baby should be wearing about the same amount of clothing as you.
  2. Fingers and toes are poor indicators of body temperature. Feel baby's back, belly or underarm area instead.
  3. Avoid using blankets in a crib, which can increase the risk of SIDS. Opt for blanket-style sleeper pajamas instead.
  4. Keep the child's bedroom temperature at a level that would be comfortable for a lightly clothed adult.
  5. Bed-sharing is not recommended.
