Child Life Services

Internship at CHKD

CHKD's Child Life Services provides a quality training experience for future child life professionals by offering a 560 hour, 14 week internship program with varied days and hours, two times a year.

In order to apply for an internship, applicants must meet the CLC eligibility requirements:

• be enrolled in a college or university that has an affiliation agreement with CHKD (ECU, ODU and TCU)
• have at least 50 child life volunteer hours
• proof of a drug screen
• a criminal background check
• a TB screen

Instructions:

Mail your complete application in one envelope. Include:

• the application form (click here to download the form)
• three reference letters in sealed envelopes
  (Letters should be from people who have observed your work with children, especially supervisor (s) from any hospital/health care experiences you have had.)
• official transcript from each school attended
  (Include list of courses in which you are currently enrolled, if applicable.)

An interview is required if your application meets the admission criteria. You will be notified by mail whether an interview should be scheduled. A personal interview is preferred and is required if you live within 100 miles of Norfolk, otherwise, a phone interview is possible.
