Community Outreach
Sam Fabian, Program Manager
Michele Tryon, Coordinator
The Community Outreach staff are committed to helping our community raise happy, healthy families. We offer educational classes and programs for parents, children and teens, coaches and professionals, and host an annual chronic illness school-based conference. Thanks to a
grant from Kohl’s department stores, we are able to provide additional outreach to our schools and sponsor
local and national speakers to present on timely topics that enhance the
well-being of all families.

ACL-Injury Prevention Program for Female Athletes
CHKD Sports Medicine program for female athletes.
Research has shown that the incidence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female athletes can be reduced by as much as 72-80 percent with proper training. Our ACL-injury prevention classes for female athletes are based on researched methods of preventing ACL injuries and consist of strengthening techniques, core stabilization exercises, plyometrics (jump training), stretching, balance and coordination training. The class will also focus on proper jumping, landing and cutting techniques.
The instructor is a physical therapist and athletic trainer and will perform a pre- and post-training assessment to determine improvements the athletes have made throughout the program. At the end of six weeks, the athletes will have a better chance of preventing an ACL injury. The first six participants to send in payment will be accepted into the program. Cost is $75 per participant. Click here for registration forms, class dates, times and location.
