Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics of Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is headquartered at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD). The hospital is the focus of all pediatric undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate training.
CHKD is part of a thriving medical complex that includes Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk Public Health Department, the Diabetes Institute, the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine and the Center for Pediatric Research. CHKD is the co-founder with EVMS of the Children's Neuro-Developmental Center.
The extensive pediatric faculty includes a widely varied full-time medical staff and numerous community physicians. More than 90 pediatric specialists treat illnesses such as premature birth, sickle cell disease, chronic asthma, diabetes and cystic fibrosis. The Department of Pediatrics is also home to a fully accredited three-year pediatric residency program which is designed to provide a broad educational experience in all aspects of pediatric medicine.
Pediatric Grand Rounds are held weekly and are attended by faculty, community faculty, house staff and students.
