Related Services

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Children’s Hospital of The King Daughters provides comprehensive care for the treatment of childhood disorders of the ears, nose, throat, face and neck. While many families seek our expertise for more common conditions, our physicians are also skilled in the management of children with complicated or unusual disorders of the ear, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck.

Our otolaryngologists work closely with their colleagues in general pediatrics to formulate long-term treatment plans for children with chronic illness, and to provide care for children needing urgent ENT intervention. They also consult frequently with CHKD pediatric subspecialists in such areas as allergy, pulmonology, dentistry, infectious diseases, and hematology/oncology to provide care for children with complex medical problems. Ancillary services at the hospital such as audiology, speech-language pathology, radiology, and blood drawing cater to the special needs of children. Children requiring surgical intervention are cared for by specialists in pediatric anesthesia and nurses specifically trained in the pre-operative and post-operative management of children.

Does your staff have special training?

All of our specialists have completed residency training in otolaryngology and are certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and/or the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Several of our specialists have completed fellowship (post-residency) training in pediatric otolaryngology. Our department is dedicated to the care of children with ENT problems.

Do I need a referral to make an appointment?

This depends on what kind of insurance you have.

If you have an HMO, you must:

  • Get a referral from your child's primary care physician before you call to make an appointment.
  • Make sure that your referral has not expired. Many are good for only 30 days, so check yours before you come to your appointment. If your referral has expired, call your primary care physician and explain your situation. In most cases, your primary care physician will provide a new or extended referral.
  • Bring the referral with you to the appointment. If you do not have a referral, or if the referral you have is expired, your HMO will not pay for your appointment.
  • If you have fee-for-service insurance or a PPO, you do not need a physician's referral to make an appointment.

We offer in-depth information about insurance in our Billing and Insurance section.
