Pediatric emergency specialists at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters provide care to acutely ill or injured children at CHKD's Emergency Center, the region's only emergency facility just for children. The Emergency Center is located at CHKD.
More than 40,000 children come to CHKD's Emergency Center for care each year. Many of those are transferred from other area emergency rooms because they need immediate attention from CHKD's pediatric medical and surgical specialists. To ensure the safe transfer of these patients, the center works closely with CHKD's Transport Team.
CHKD's emergency physicians also collaborate with the region's level I trauma center next door at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where children who are critically injured in accidents are often cared for before they come to CHKD.
