This course is designed for pediatric and cardiothoracic surgeons and their clinical staff. It includes
live demonstrations of the minimally invasive surgical treatment for pectus carinatum and the Nuss Procedure
for pectus excavatum, as well as discussion of other pediatric thoracic deformities.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Assess and classify patients
- Prescribe exercise and posture programs
- Evaluate workup for pectus excavatum and carinatum
- Describe the surgical techniques and manage post-operative care
- Review bracing treatment for pectus carinatum
- Explain reasons for the VEPTR and describe surgical techniques
- Describe the reasons for treatment with growing rod
- Describe use of the vacuum bell
This two-day intensive teaching course will include:
- Operating room demonstrations of surgical techniques
- Video theater with audio talk-back system
- Discussion and review of new concepts
- Methods of evaluation
- Case presentations
