Frequently Asked Questions - Office Related

• Should I come early if I am a new patient?
Answer:

Yes, please come 15-20 minutes early. This will facilitate a timely visit with your physician.

• What do I need to bring for my first visit to the office?
Answer:

Please download our new patient forms, fill them out and bring them to your first visit along with your child's shot record.

• Will there be a co-pay for every visit?
Answer:

Yes, generally, there is a co-pay for each visit to the office. Since co-pays are determined by your insurance company and not our office, however, there may be some variation. If you are concerned, you can always contact our billing department at (757) 461-4027 or your insurance company with questions.

• Why is it important for a provider from PDC Pediatrics to be listed as my child's primary care physician (PCP)?
Answer:

If your insurance requires a PCP and one of our providers is not listed, the charges may be denied by your insurance and you may be responsible for all dates of service. Please note: it does not matter which provider from our group is listed on your insurance card, as long as it is one of our physicians.

• What if I am going to be late for my appointment?
Answer:

Please call our office if you are going to be late or cannot keep your appointment. The phone staff can assist you with rescheduling if necessary. We do have a $25 charge for missed well-child appointments if they are not cancelled 24 hours prior to the appointment.

• Do I have to use the same office for all my visits?
Answer:
You may use any location during the regular business hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. For Saturday morning acute care visits, we only see patients at our Kempsville location at 6345 Center Drive.
 
• Can I leave a message for the doctor and expect a call back?
Answer:

Yes. When you leave a message at any of the offices, your call will be returned either by a nurse or one of the doctors. Our triage nurse works diligently throughout the day to return phone calls. If your child has a problem or concern that she cannot help with, or you have a concern that needs to be addressed specifically by one of the doctors, she will place the message on the physician’s desk so s/he may return your call at her/his earliest convenience. Our doctors typically return calls between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. or after 5:00 p.m. If an appointment is necessary to address the problem, the triage nurse can also assist you in scheduling a visit. As always, if your child has a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

• If I leave a message for the nurse, how long will it take to get a call back?
Answer:

Our triage nurse returns phone calls by order of urgency. If your child has a life-threatening emergency, please call 911. For less urgent concerns, you should receive a nurse call back within two hours.
