Children’s Surgical Specialty Group Board Names New Chair and Vice-Chair

HAMPTON ROADS, VA – The board of Children’s Surgical Specialty Group has elected CHKD cardiac surgeon Dr. Felix W. Tsai and CHKD plastic surgeon Dr. Jesus Inciong as chair and vice-chair, respectively.

Dr. Tsai graduated from Northwestern University Medical School and completed fellowship training at George Washington University and the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to joining CHKD, Dr. Tsai practiced at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas, where he was also an Assistant Professor in Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School. Dr. Tsai is currently Chief and Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery at CHKD, as well as the Surgical Director of the ECMO Program. He has a joint appointment as Assistant Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He was recently selected to the Board of Trustees of the Hampton Roads American Heart Association.

Through CHKD's comprehensive pediatric heart program, Dr. Tsai works closely with CHKD's pediatric cardiologists, neonatologists, intensivists and nursing staff to provide a full spectrum of care, including prenatal evaluations, surgery and care of adults with congenital heart disease. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Inciong received his medical degree from the University of the Philippines. He completed his residency in plastic surgery and was Associate Clinical Professor at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital. He moved to the United States and finished a second residency in plastic surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Inciong has completed fellowships in plastic surgery at the University of Miami and microsurgery and craniofacial/maxillofacial surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Dr. Inciong is director of the multidisciplinary CHKD Craniofacial Center. He has been a longtime volunteer for Operation Smile, performing cleft lip and palate surgeries all over the world. Dr. Inciong is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons and member of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.

As chair and vice-chair of the board, Drs. Tsai and Inciong will provide valuable leadership to over 20 skilled pediatric surgeons. Children’s Surgical Specialty group physicians perform inpatient and outpatient surgery at CHKD and outpatient surgery at the Health and Surgery Center at Oyster Point in Newport News and at the Health and Surgery Center at Concert Drive in Virginia Beach.
