CHKD welcomes returning pediatric surgeon

NORFOLK, VA - Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is pleased to announce the return of Dr. Michael Goretsky to the pediatric surgery team.

Dr. Goretsky previously spent 15 years at CHKD – home of the Nuss Procedure, where he gained extensive experience in the repair of complex pectus excavatum and was active in clinical and research endeavors with a special interest in metal allergies of the Nuss bar. After a brief period working at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Goretsky has rejoined the CHKD pediatric surgery team.

Dr. Goretsky specializes in pediatric general and thoracic surgery. He received his medical degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed a general surgery residency at University of Cincinnati and a pediatric surgery residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. He also completed a research fellowship at Shriner's Burn Institute and an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati.

His major clinical interests are chest wall deformities, minimally invasive surgery and surgical quality. He has been published in many peer-reviewed journals on the Nuss Procedure as well as a variety of pediatric surgery textbooks. He lectures extensively in the U.S. and internationally on chest wall deformities.
