CHKD's Dr. Kelly Maples worked with five other allergists from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology to create a shared decision tool that helps patients with eczema work with their doctors to manage their condition.

You can use the online tool by visiting eczemarelief.acaai.org.

"The goal is to offer patients with eczema the tools to help them understand and improve their treatment," Dr. Maples says.

The web-based tool will:

  • Provide information, including advantages and disadvantages about available treatments
  • Help patients/parents identify which type of treatment best fits their lifestyle and beliefs
  • Lead patients/parents through answering a few questions
  • Guide to continued discussion with an allergist about the best possible treatment

Once the questions are answered, responses can be printed and taken to the patient's next appointment. The results can be used to determine the best options for your child. Allergists are specially trained to help patients take control of their eczema so they can live the life they choose.
