Unanchored furniture and TVs are often overlooked dangers in the home that can result in serious accidents. Every 30 minutes a child is rushed to the emergency room from injuries caused by a falling TV or overturned furniture. Televisions, tables, dressers and even appliances – small or large – can fall onto a child causing serious injury or death.

Help prevent TV and furniture tip-over accidents by taking the following precautions:

  • Mount all TVs securely to the wall or a piece of furniture. Follow manufacturer instructions or find how-to resources online
  • Anchor heavy furniture such as dressers, mirrors and bookcases securely to the wall.
  • Keep toys, electronics and anything else that may be of interest to your child off of furniture she could climb.

In 2016, IKEA recalled various dressers due to tip-over-related accidents that resulted in the deaths of seven children. Additionally, several other companies have recalled dressers, TVs and more due to serious tip-over risk. See all tip-over-related recalls here.
