Outpatient Nursing

(757) 668-7128

Every CHKD doctor’s office, specialty practice, and outpatient surgery clinic is staffed by a team of caregivers who are dedicated to providing the highest quality care to every child we serve.

What is an Outpatient Nurse?

An outpatient nurse is a licensed medical professional, with LPN or RN certification, who treats patients seeking medical care outside of the hospital setting – most often in a primary care practice, or a surgery or specialty clinic. Outpatient nurses generally work a regular schedule with limited evening or weekend hours.

All our outpatient nurses must be able to communicate effectively with patients and families, maintain a friendly demeanor, and be compassionate and understanding. It is vital that they are able to assess patients quickly and accurately. Patient assessment may involve monitoring vital signs, taking samples, and gathering a detailed medical history.
