Eastern Region Virginia Mental Health Access Program (VMAP)

More than one-third of visits to primary care pediatricians are for mental health concerns. With a shortage of mental health providers in Virginia, children and adolescents are not getting the help they need. To address this need, VMAP was created.

The Virginia Mental Health Access Program is a statewide program designed to help pediatricians address the growing mental and behavioral health needs of children and adolescents. This mental health program increases access to consults with child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAP) and licensed mental health professionals (LMHP), along with care navigation services.

Pediatricians can call the VMAP line for CAP and LMHP consults, and care navigation services to provide additional resources outside the primary care setting. Our regional hub is fully staffed Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to support eastern region pediatricians.

This service is available to all primary care physicians in the community, and enrollment is free. As a VMAP enrolled provider, you also gain access to year-round education and training opportunities to develop the skill set needed to manage pediatric patients with mental health needs.

For more information on how to enroll, please visit our website, To schedule a lunch-and-learn session or to receive more information about the VMAP program with our Eastern Region team, contact or call, 1-888-371-8627 ext. 2.
