Virginia Mental Health Access Program (VMAP) expands access to mental health expertise by facilitating consultation between psychiatric providers and children’s primary care providers.

If you are a primary care provider and would like to speak to a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist about a specific case, call (888) 371-VMAP (8627). Consult services are available Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Be prepared to provide the following:

  • Provider details and call back number
  • Child information, including name, DOB, insurance, and zip code
  • Reason for consult and relevant background information

This service is available to all primary care physicians in the community, and enrollment is free. Patients must be 21 years of age or younger. As a VMAP enrolled provider, you also gain access to year-round education and training opportunities to develop the skill set needed to manage pediatric patients with mental health needs.
