Bio

Amy Miller is the transition program coordinator for the Children’s Cancer and Blood Center at CHKD. She has been practicing social work since 2009. Her experience in social work has covered many roles within mental health to include case management, therapy, assessment, crisis intervention (community and clinic-based), as well as program management and development.

She utilizes a strengths-based, person-centered, and solution-focused approach while viewing each individual and family through a trauma informed lens.

Miller’s interest in social work is rooted in supporting vulnerable individuals who need guidance in advocating for their needs and accessing care in systems that are often overwhelming and barrier-filled. Though she was initially drawn to supporting young children, as her career progressed she discovered a passion for supporting clinically acute and socially complex adults.

Previously living in Asheville, N.C., Miller’s favorite way to spend time is hiking with her family (husband, two daughters, and sweet black lab). However, anytime spent with her family is time thoroughly cherished by Miller. Her family recently moved back to the Tidewater area, where Miller was born and raised, in order be closer to her parents and extended family.

Amy has spent time volunteering in Chile (farm construction and trail maintenance) and Nepal (supporting a local, impoverished school in Kathmandu).

Amy is a proud member of the National Association of Social Workers.
