Bio
Dr. Gowen is chair of Eastern Virginia Medical School's department of pediatrics and has a long history of service to EVMS and CHKD, where the school’s department of pediatrics is based.
A neonatologist at CHKD since 1990, he joined the faculty of EVMS as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics the same year and became the Director of the joint CHKD-EVMS pediatric residency program, which has trained approximately 70 percent of the region’s pediatricians. In 1993, he became an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and in 2006, he became the Vice-Chair for Education in the Department of Pediatrics.
He was named chair of the department of pediatrics in 2013 after serving as interim chair.
