Bio
Jimmy Spelts is a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner at CHKD, and has always had a passion for caring for others, especially when they are facing a mental health challenge.
He was a peer counselor in high school, and then became a psychiatric corpsman in the U.S. Navy.
He's been a nurse for 22 years in a wide variety of settings, but always seems to navigate back to caring for psychiatric patients. Since becoming a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, he has treated a wide variety of clients using therapy as well as medication management.
Jimmy grew up in Colorado, and came to Virginia through the Navy. He's spent more than two decades working as a nurse in Hampton Roads. He's been married for 20 years, and has four children, and eight grandchildren. He and his wife enjoy traveling by motorcycle and spending time with their dog, Lexie.

- Managing anxiety in children and adolescents as well as teaching resilience.
