Bio
Karen Hancock earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and her master’s with a specialty in mental health, from Old Dominion University. She is currently enrolled in the doctor of nursing program at ODU. She has spent most of her career in the neonatal
intensive care unit and has provided direct patient care and worked in a leadership position.
With a passion for mental health since she was an undergraduate student, Karen was inspired to pursue a career as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner after a close family member experienced serious mental health issues as a teenager.
Karen grew up in Indiana and is a Navy veteran. She resides in Chesapeake with her husband and their American Staffordshire terrier. She has four adult children and three grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading historical biographies, exercising, and learning Spanish.
