Bio
Bethea was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, and grew up in Hampton Roads. She graduated from Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, and completed her bachelor's degree of science in nursing at Chamberlain University. She earned her master's degree to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Walden University. She first became licensed practical nurse in 2010, and then a registered nurse before gaining her certification in 2021 as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
Bethea has more than six years of pediatric mental health nursing experience in residential and inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization, and outpatient treatment. She has experience with treating and managing children and adolescents diagnosed with mood disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, and disruptive disorders.
Bethea is the second oldest of five children and has one daughter. She enjoys crafting, traveling, self-care activities, and spending time with her family and significant other. She enjoys being a mental health advocate and providing evidence-based care to children and adolescents to improve their stability and quality of life.
Bethea was drawn to the psychiatric field after noticing a lack of adequate care and providers for children and adolescents struggling with mental health issues. She returned to school to further her psychiatric education and sought employment with an organization that shared a similar vision and mission. Bethea is honored to be a part of the psychiatry department at CHKD as there are many opportunities to provide the appropriate support to families in need.
