Bio
Born and raised in Virginia Beach, Dr. Crandley can’t remember exactly when she first decided she wanted to be a doctor. However, her mother remembers her 4-year-old daughter proclaiming to an audience of doll babies she was "Dr. Karp and is going to fix all the boo-boos." A few years later, after graduating Cox High School, she attended the University of Virginia. In addition to studying the pre-medical sciences, Dr. Crandley majored in Art History, graduating in 2002. Loving Charlottesville and the University, she decided to stay and attend the University of Virginia School of Medicine, earning her MD in 2006. Growing up in Tidewater, she knew that CHKD was a special place, making EVMS/CHKD her first choice for residency training. After completing residency training at CHKD, she had the honor to serve as Chief Resident the following year, teaching medical students and residents, and serving as an attending physician with the hospitalist service and local newborn nurseries. She was delighted to “grow up” and join Tidewater Children’s Associates in 2010.
Having experienced CHKD as a patient, student, physician and parent, Dr. Crandley can say without a doubt there is nowhere she would rather practice. She feels it is a joy and privilege to be a part of CHKD, truly loves her job and hopes her enthusiasm for pediatrics shows for every patient she treats.
Dr. Crandley and her husband welcomed a son into their lives in 2012 and life changed so much for the better. However, around the time of his first birthday he began to experience some health problems, eventually being diagnosed with a rare bone disorder that means his bones are fragile and break easily. This life experience has led her to a whole new appreciation for the ongoing challenges of parenting a child with special needs and the difference a quality medical home, like CHKD, can make.
In Dr. Crandley’s spare time, she enjoys getting outdoors, playing at the beach, and horseback riding. She also loves drawing and painting, although these days at the Crandley house, art projects mostly involve sidewalk chalk, Play-Doh, crayons and construction paper.
