Back Pain In Kids
About half of all children experience back pain by age 18, usually caused by muscle sprains or strains from carrying something heavy, sports injuries or or accidents.
Most episodes of back pain in children are nothing to
worry about. Kids might not need any treatment other than rest and over-the-counter pain
relievers.
However, in rare cases, a child's back pain can be a sign of a
more serious problem. You should call your child's pediatrician if
- your child is younger
than 5 and complains about back pain.
- your child of any age has back pain along with a fever, leg weakness, a change in bowel or bladder control, weight loss or
morning stiffness that lasts longer than 30 minutes.
- your child's pain is
so severe that they have trouble with sleep or normal activities.
