Executive Statement

Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Health System (“CHKDHS”) has established a comprehensive privacy program, including both a chief information security officer and a corporate privacy officer, designed to help us respect and protect data privacy rights. CHKDHS will protect the privacy of all personal information in its custody in keeping with the access and privacy provisions of all applicable legislation and regulations.

Scope

This privacy policy applies to all users of the CHKDHS website.

Collection of Information

By using this website, you consent to the collection and use of your information as discussed in this policy. CHKDHS does not sell, trade, rent or share your information to outside organizations unless required to do so by legal, judicial or governmental proceedings.

When you visit a CHKDHS website, your personal information will not be collected unless you choose to become a registered user of the site in order to use online services, such as class or event registration, or to receive news or notifications from CHKDHS by email, or to receive online products and services that require it. Your personal information will then be used only to provide you with services and products that you select, and for no other purpose.

CHKDHS web servers do automatically record Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of visitors. The IP address is a unique number assigned to every computer on the Internet. Generally, an IP address changes each time you connect to the Internet (it is a "dynamic" address). Note, however, that if you have a broadband connection, depending on your individual circumstance, the IP address that we collect may contain information that could be deemed identifiable. This is because, with some broadband connections, your IP address doesn't change (it is "static") and could be associated with your personal computer.

As well as recording the IP addresses of users, CHKDHS web server also keeps track of sites that users visited immediately prior to visiting CHKDHS’ website and the search terms they used to find it. The Web server keeps track of the pages visited on CHKDHS’ website, the amount of time spent on those pages, as well as the type of searches done on them. Your searches remain confidential and anonymous. CHKDHS uses this information only for statistical purposes, to find out which pages users find most useful and to improve the website.

CHKDHS servers also capture and store information that your browser transmits. This includes:

  1. Browser type/version
  2. Operating system used
  3. Date and time of the server request
  4. Volume of data transferred
  5. Access status (file transferred, file not found and so on)

This data will be used to generate statistics that help us to further adapt our websites to meet your individual needs. We will not use this data to determine identifiable personal information.

Cookies

Cookies are electronic placeholders that are placed on your computer by websites to track your individual movements on that website over time. Most cookies used by CHKDHS are session-based and therefore last only for the duration of the user's session. These balance the usage of this website on all CHKDHS web servers for optimal performance. They are not tied to a specific identity — and contain no identifiable personal information.

Occasionally, CHKDHS will make use of persistent cookies. This type of cookie remains on your hard drive and provides information about the session you are in and waits for the next time you use that site again. These cookies help our site recognize repeat users, facilitate their access to and use of the site - and allow us to track usage behavior. This information is only used to make content improvements. These cookies are not used to identify users or track their usage of other sites. You can make selections on your preferences for the use of cookies on our website.

If you do not want a cookie placed on your computer as a result of using a CHKDHS website, you can also disable cookies altogether by modifying the preferences section of your Web browser. Note that, if you do so, some aspects of CHKDHS websites may not work properly. If you choose to accept cookies on your hard drive, but wish to be informed of their appearance, you may turn on a warning prompt by modifying the cookie-warning section also located in the preferences section of your Web browser.

Security

If you choose to share personal data on CHKDHS website, we implement necessary technical and organizational security controls to protect your personal data against loss or misuse. Your data will be stored in a secure operating environment that is not accessible without authorization.

When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card numbers and passwords):

  • We encrypt that information from eavesdropping using Secure Sockets Layer
  • We do not store credit card numbers
  • Password data is further protected by encryption in storage
  • We may suspend or disable accounts for violations of our terms and conditions.

Right to Delete Information

CHKDHS does not store personal information without need. We follow laws that require us to delete personal information if the reason for its collection and storage does not exist any longer.

If you have registered your personal details with us, you can request to deactivate or delete your account at any time.
