COVID-19 Information for Patient Families and Visitors

At CHKD, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our patients and their families. That’s why we are doing everything we can to make it safer and easier to get the care your child needs, from the CHKD doctors you trust.

Effective March 21, 2023, patients, visitors, and team members will no longer be required to wear a mask at all times within a CHKD facility. Patients who are seeking treatment for a viral illness such as COVID-19 or the flu should continue to mask to prevent spreading the virus to others. This simple act could save the life of a child with a compromised immune system.

We are limiting the number of people in our facilities and physical distancing precautions are being taken in all locations.

Important Information For Our Patients and Families

Visitor Guidelines - Updated October 18, 2022

With a greatly reduced level of COVID-19 in our community, CHKD has established the following visitor guidelines.

Doctor’s Appointments, Outpatient Surgeries, and Urgent Care: Two adults may accompany a patient.

Hospitalized Patients: Children may have four designated adult visitors for the duration of their stay. Medical assistants who help with activities of daily living are always allowed. Siblings, 12 years of age and older, who are not showing signs of illness are welcome in their brother's or sister's room between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. while a parent is present.

A maximum number of four people may be in a patient's room at one time, which may be further limited depending on the size of the room and the severity of the patient's illness.

Hospitalized patients with a positive COVID-19 test, and patients under investigation for COVID-19 may have two adult visitors (parents or guardians) for the duration of the inpatient stay. Visitors are required to remain at the patient's bedside while at the hospital, but are allowed to leave/return (walking between the front door of the hospital and the patient’s room) once per 12-hour nursing shift. Siblings are not allowed.

Masks No Longer Required at All CHKD Facilities - Effective March 21, 2023

  • Patients who are seeking treatment for a viral illness such as COVID-19 or the flu should continue to mask to prevent spreading the virus to others. This simple act could save the life of a child with a compromised immune system.

While our COVID-19 policies continue to evolve, our priority remains the safety of our team members, patients, and the community. Masks will still be available for anyone who wants to wear one. Please continue to follow hand hygiene guidelines and practice social distancing when possible. We will continue to monitor respiratory illness activity across our community and may change masking guidance, as appropriate.

Telehealth Appointments Available

CHKD pediatricians, specialists, and surgeons are offering telehealth visits for patients who qualify. This means your child can get the care they need from the CHKD doctors you trust – all from the safety and comfort of your home. Click here to learn more.
