Personal Statement

I chose child and adolescent psychiatry because it allows me to work with families and make interventions before problems such as low self-esteem become ingrained. I chose child and adolescent psychiatry because it is full of hope of improving the future lives of our young people. I chose CHKD because of its reputation for excellent care to our children.

Bio

Dr. Torbert joins CHKD with a wealth of experience in practice locations and settings. A native of Hampton Roads since high school, Dr. Torbert is proud to join the CHKD family to continue providing service to children of this area.

Dr. Torbert is passionate about advocacy for mental health. She has lobbied legislators for more funding for eating disorders. She focused her master's degree thesis on disparities in health insurance and health care delivery in the Big 10 University population.

She combines her passion for advocacy with a love for teaching and daily interaction with patients.

In her free time, Dr. Torbert enjoys playing the flute, taking piano lessons, studying (and speaking) foreign languages, traveling, and gardening.

Refer to Our Mental Health Program

CHKD is working hard to build a Mental Health Program with care access opportunities for all children in need. Concerned About Your Child's Mental Health?

If you are concerned about your child's mental health, the best place to start is with your child's primary care pediatrician. Many of CHKD's pediatricians have completed advanced training in the management of disorders such as ADHD, depression, and anxiety.
