Bio

Dr. Carmody is a lifelong Virginian. Born and raised in Richlands, he majored in chemistry at Washington & Lee University before attending medical school at the University of Virginia. During his medical training, he became fascinated with kidney disease and renal physiology. After completing his residency training at CHKD, he returned to UVA for a fellowship in pediatric nephrology, then came back to CHKD to join the Children's Kidney Center and to be a part of Virginia's only freestanding children's hospital.

The Children's Kidney Center is equipped to manage all types of kidney disease. The center has the only dedicated pediatric dialysis unit and the only pediatric-specific kidney transplant program in the state of Virginia -- along with a multidisciplinary team to care for the children.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Carmody also teaches at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

In his spare time, Dr. Carmody enjoys writing, running and spending time with his son and family.

A Note From Dr. Carmody

"There's something different about being at a children's hospital. Everything here was made for and is dedicated to kids. And every person here chose to work with children. It's the kind of environment that's hard to find elsewhere, and one that I wanted to be a part of."
