Dr. Janelle Fox is a pediatric urologist at CHKD who has expertise in quality improvement and patient safety.

She received her medical degree at the University of California San Diego, and completed her residency at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. She also completed a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Before coming to CHKD, Dr. Fox worked at the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and also in the United States Navy. Her clinical interests include kidney stones, genitourinary trauma and reconstruction, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and treatment options for refractory voiding dysfunction.

She is also very involved in quality improvement and patient safety, having earned a master’s degree in healthcare quality and safety management from Thomas Jefferson University in 2021. She has previously held leadership roles on several healthcare improvement committees.

She publishes articles and research in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, mentors resident research and quality improvement projects, and reviews for three urology and pediatric urology journals.

Her family loves the Hampton Roads area, especially her two daughters who are grateful to be back “home.” Dr. Fox also looks forward to continuing to care for the area’s military dependent children in partnership with our local military treatment facilities.

Dr. Fox is a member of the American Urological Association, Society of Pediatric Urology, Society of Government Service Urologists, and American Society for Quality. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Outside of regular work duties, she serves on the Board of Directors of her HOA and as a volunteer surgeon in partnership with Children’s Surgery International, IVUmed, and EVMS Global Health.
