Danielle Millspaugh, certified family nurse practitioner

"There is at least one patient every evening that makes me smile or laugh out loud with a surprising comment or action. Children are constantly making exciting discoveries about the world! I am also privileged to begin my career at the CHKD Urgent Care Centers. This is a place that highly values continuing education and best practices for excellent pediatric urgent care medicine."

Bio

Prior to earning her doctor of nursing practice degree in 2016, Millspaugh spent 10 years as an acute care registered nurse working primarily with adults, but also with pediatric patients. She also spent four years living abroad in a variety of positions, including public health initiatives in Bosnia and Morocco.

While studying to become a family nurse practitioner, she discovered a love for urgent care practice and found it to be one of her most rewarding rotations. She enjoyed the variety and complexity of patient needs and was thrilled to learn about a pediatric urgent care fellowship offered through Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.

She calls her experience as a fellow "the perfect capstone" to her education.

As a doctorate student,  Millspaugh implemented a peer counseling pilot study to improve exclusive breastfeeding among mothers in an urban region of West Africa. Her project was featured at the Sigma Theta Tau International Conference for Nurse Leaders in January of 2015 and at the Western Institutes of Nursing conference in the spring of 2016.

As a DNP, Millspaugh places a high value on research and evidence-based practice.
