Diaper Rash

Diaper rash can alarm parents and annoy babies, but most diaper rash cases can be resolved with simple at-home treatments.

These tips can help:

  1. Check the diaper area hourly, and change diapers promptly when needed.
  2. Clean the diaper area gently but thoroughly with warm water and a mild cleanser. Wipes may cause further irritation.
  3. Allow the diaper area to air-dry, then apply a protective cream containing zinc oxide before fitting a fresh diaper.
  4. A clean, dry bottom after every diaper change is the key to avoiding diaper rash.
  5. If the rash worsens or fails to subside in seven days, or if your child develops a fever, call your pediatrician.
