Halloween
Halloween can be lots of fun for young kids. If your little ghosts and goblins will be trick-or-treating this year, please take a few precautions, suggested by the American Academy of Pediatrics, to make sure everyone stays safe while having a spooktacular time.
- Make sure a parent or responsible adult accompanies young children on their neighborhood rounds.
- If a child is wearing a mask, make sure the eye holes are big enough so they can get a good view of their surroundings.
- Adding reflective tape or striping to costumes and trick-or-treat bags keeps kids visible.
- Make sure costumes are flame resistant.
- Only go to homes with a porch light on and never enter a home or car for a treat.
- Make sure any face makeup is nontoxic.
- Plan costumes that are bright, reflective, and short enough so they don’t cause tripping.
- If a sword, cane or stick comes with your child’s costume, make sure it’s not sharp enough to cause injury to them or others.
- Make sure your kids are well fed before trick-or-treating begins to keep them from filling up on Halloween treats.
- Although tampering is rare, closely examine all treats and throw away any spoiled, unwrapped or suspicious items.
- HAVE FUN!
