About David Wright

(757) 668-9066

David Wright burst onto the professional baseball scene in 2001 when he was drafted by the New York Mets. Since then, he has become a staple of sports in the Big Apple, the captain of the Mets, and the face of the franchise, solidifying his stature as a true star of the game.

A seven-time All-Star, two-time Golden Glove Award winner, and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, Wright is a former professional baseball third baseman who played his entire 14-year Major League Baseball career for the New York Mets.

David is a proud Hampton Roads native. Born in Norfolk, Wright grew up in Chesapeake, where he starred for Hickory High School and was the Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year his senior year.

Off the field, he’s equally impressive.

In 2005, he started his own charitable foundation, the David Wright Foundation, and has supported CHKD for many years. In 2011, David hosted the first Vegas Night to benefit CHKD. In nine years, the event has raised more than $1.5 million for local kids.

While he’s been the face of the New York Mets, he’s just David when he visits the kids at the hospital. The 4-year-old who knows little about professional baseball, knows that the nice guy named David is willing to play cards and dolls and Xbox and, well, whatever a kid in the hospital wants to play for however long they want to play it.
