Can I use CHKD’s name and logo?

Once you have gone through the event approval process, you will have permission to use our name and logo. All materials using our name and/or logo must be reviewed by the hospital prior to printing.

What if I don’t know how much my event will raise?

Every dollar that is donated to CHKD makes a difference for our patients. Whether your fundraiser brings in $100 or $100,000, your hard work on behalf of the hospital is truly appreciated. The most important thing is to be realistic about your budget and how much you can raise, and work to make that goal a reality.

Can someone from CHKD attend and/or speak at my event?

Due to the demand on staff time, attendance of CHKD personnel at your fundraiser cannot be guaranteed. We will work with groups on an individual basis to determine staff availability.

How can the hospital promote my fundraiser?

Once your event is approved, we will post it online provided it is open to the public. We can not guarantee or finance any press coverage or obtain any celebrities to attend your event. See fundraising events here.

Do I need to be a non-profit organization to host a fundraiser?

You do not need to be a non-profit organization to host a fundraiser for the hospital, unless your fundraiser involves an activity only non-profits can host, such as bingo and other games of chance.

Can I hold my fundraiser at CHKD?

Unfortunately, due to space constraints, fundraisers hosted by community members not affiliated with the hospital cannot take place on hospital grounds.

Can I host a fundraiser to benefit a specific patient?

CHKD cannot authorize the use of our name or logo in fund-raising events that are to benefit one specific patient or family.

Does CHKD receive a lot of community support?

Philanthropy has always played a critical role in our ability to provide state-of-the-art services to meet the diverse medical needs of children. Ongoing support from all areas of the community makes CHKD the special place that it for so many families. Without generous support, we would not be able to maintain our unique level of care. For example, many services key to a child’s recovery, such as child life, pastoral care, and social work, are not reimbursed by insurance and rely on charitable gifts to help our children and families.

Is CHKD affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network?

CHKD is one of 170 children’s hospitals across North America that is a Children’s Miracle Network member hospital.

Should I be concerned about the privacy of my gift?

CHKD does not share or sell donor information with other companies or organizations. Unless you request that your gift remain anonymous, all donors giving $350 or more each year are listed in CHKD’s annual Honor Roll of Contributors published in Kidstuff Magazine. Donors who give $1,000 or more annually are also included on the hospital’s donor wall that is currently under development. We will always respect your wishes for privacy and if you have any concerns, please contact the development office.

What kind of gifts can I give?

There are many ways to contribute to CHKD. Not only can you provide gifts of cash/checks and credit card, but you may also provide in-kind gifts, trusts and annuities (legacy giving) and tribute giving.

May I donate online?

Can I make a gift to thank the medical professionals who cared for my child?

Yes, CHKD offers a tribute giving program. We promptly send an acknowledgement card notifying the recipient of your gift, but the amount of your donation is never shared with the recipient.

Do you accept all major credit cards?

You can charge a gift to your Visa, MasterCard or American Express. We accept credit card gifts online or by phone.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes, CHKD is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, which means your gift is tax deductible to the fullest extent provided by law. You will receive an acknowledgment letter for each gift made that serves as your tax record.

Can I designate my gift for a specific program of the hospital?

Certainly. While the hospital needs and appreciates unrestricted gifts to use where our needs are greatest, we are happy to designate your gift to a specific program that best suits your interests. If making an online gift, please specify where your gift should be directed in the notes section at the end of the form. If mailing in your gift, simply include a brief note with your donation naming the department or program that you would like to benefit from your gift. 

Can I make a monthly gift?

We would be glad to charge your credit card monthly at your request – for a period of 12 months or indefinitely. Please use the online donation form or contact the hospital’s development office.

How can I become a corporate partner?

There are many ways in which a company can partner with CHKD to support our programs and services. Corporate giving, corporate foundation support and employee giving are just a few examples of how you can make a difference in the lives of our patients. Can I give through the United Way, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), or Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC)?

Yes. CHKD’s numbers are below:

Can I make a donation of new toys?

Yes. Toy donations are coordinated through CHKD’s child life department. Please click here to learn more. Due to infection control policies, CHKD is unable to accept used toys.

May I donate food items, such as candy?

Because of infection control issues and the special diet requirements of our patients, we are unable to accept food donations.

Can I make an anonymous gift?

Yes, while we like to acknowledge our donors for their generosity, we respect your privacy. Whether making your gift online, over the phone, or by mail, simply indicate that you wish to make your gift anonymously.

Can I leave Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in my will?

Can my gift be matched by my employer?

Please check with your employer to see if they will match your personal gift to CHKD. Matching gifts maximize the impact of your contribution and send a powerful message about the importance of supporting children's health.

Where can I donate gently used clothing and other items to help CHKD?
