Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters

Our main hospital, Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD), is located a mile to the west of downtown Norfolk, VA, and is part of the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus.

The Hospital is the key part of the CHKD Health System. Services include inpatient and outpatient care, surgery, emergency medicine, radiology/imaging, rehabilitation, pastoral services, hospitality services, pharmacy, and respiratory care to name a few.

From the Peninsula

From the Peninsula, via the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT)

  • Take I-64 E through the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel to Norfolk.
  • Follow I-64 E to US-460 W/Granby Street in Norfolk
  • Take exit 276 on the right for I-564/US-460/Granby St toward the Naval Base. Keep left and merge onto US-460W/Granby Street.
  • Bear to the right at Llewellyn Avenue.
  • Turn right onto W 27th St.
  • Turn left on Colley Avenue.
  • For the CHKD Emergency Department, turn right at Entrance 1 (Raleigh Avenue) and follow the signs to Parking E, right across the street from the Emergency Department entrance.
  • For the main hospital entrance, turn right at Entrance 2 (Olney Road) and left on Wagner Avenue for Parking A.

From the Peninsula, via the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel (MMBT)

  • Take I-64 East to I-664 onto the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel.
  • After the tunnel, look for the CHKD direction signs.
  • Take Exit 15A (left exit) to I-264 East.
  • After the downtown tunnel, take the left exit to St. Paul's Boulevard.
  • Turn right on St. Paul's, then left at Brambleton Avenue.
  • After crossing the bridge, turn right on Colley Avenue.
  • For the main hospital entrance, turn left at Entrance 2 (Olney Road) and left on Wagner Avenue for Parking A.
  • For the CHKD Emergency Room, turn left at Entrance 1 (Raleigh Avenue) and follow the signs to Parking E.

From the Eastern Shore

  • Take US 13 South through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
  • Take I-64 East to I-264 West and look for the CHKD direction sign at Exit 11-B (Brambleton Avenue).
  • Go west on Brambleton two miles to Colley Avenue.
  • After crossing the bridge, turn right on Colley Avenue.
  • For the main hospital entrance, turn left at Entrance 2 (Olney Road) and left on Wagner Avenue for Parking A.
  • For the CHKD Emergency Room, turn left at Entrance 1 (Raleigh Avenue) and follow the signs to Parking E.

From Virginia Beach, Chesapeake or Norfolk

  • Take I-64 West to I-264 West toward downtown Norfolk and look for the CHKD direction sign at Exit 11-B (Brambleton Avenue).
  • Go west on Brambleton two miles to Colley Avenue.
  • Turn right on Colley.
  • For the main hospital entrance, turn left at Entrance 2 (Olney Road) and left on Wagner Avenue for Parking A.
  • For the CHKD Emergency Room, turn left at Entrance 1 (Raleigh Avenue) and follow the signs to Parking E.

From Suffolk, Franklin or Ahoskie

  • Take 58 East to I-264 East (look for the CHKD direction sign) and proceed through the downtown tunnel to Norfolk.
  • Take the left exit to St. Paul's Boulevard. Turn right on St. Paul's, then left at Brambleton Avenue.
  • After crossing the bridge, turn right on Colley Avenue, then left on Olney Road.
  • For the main hospital entrance, turn left at Entrance 2 (Olney Road) and left on Wagner Avenue for Parking A.
  • For the CHKD Emergency Room, turn left at Entrance 1 (Raleigh Avenue) and follow the signs to Parking E.

From Northeastern North Carolina

From Elizabeth City:

  • Take 17 N for approximately 30 miles to Route 104 North.
  • Take 104 N for 7 miles and then I-464 North to downtown Norfolk.
  • Follow signs to downtown Norfolk, proceeding over the Berkeley Bridge.
  • Take the left exit (Exit 9) to St. Paul's Boulevard.
  • Turn right at St. Paul's, then left at Brambleton Avenue.
  • After crossing the bridge, turn right on Colley Avenue.
  • For the main hospital entrance, turn left at Entrance 2 (Olney Road) and left on Wagner Avenue for Parking A.
  • For the CHKD Emergency Room, turn left at Entrance 1 (Raleigh Avenue) and follow the signs to Parking E.

From the Outer Banks:

  • Take 168 North and the 168 Bypass to I-464.
  • Follow signs to downtown Norfolk, proceeding over the Berkeley Bridge.
  • Take the left exit (Exit 9) to St. Paul's Boulevard.
  • Turn right at St. Paul's, then left at the Brambleton.
  • After crossing the bridge, turn right on Colley Avenue.

Riding The Tide - Norfolk's Light Rail Train

Norfolk's light rail train, known as The Tide, makes a stop at EVMC/Ft. Norfolk. This stop is convenient to the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus and CHKD. For schedules and fare information, click here.

  • After exiting The Tide, use the pedestrian walkway above Brambleton Avenue.
  • Continue through the campus two blocks to Olney Road, and then turn left.
  • CHKD is at the corner of Children’s Lane and Olney Road.

Parking at the Hospital

Families arriving for emergency services at CHKD's Emergency Center will park in designated spots on the first floor of Parking Garage E located on Raleigh Avenue. A security guard will provide families with a parking pass to gain access to the garage.

Visitor parking and parking for other hospital outpatient services is provided in a garage adjacent to CHKD. The entrance is on Wagner Avenue. CHKD has arranged free all-day parking for one car per patient per day -- with proper paperwork. For all others, there is a charge for parking beyond the first hour. There is also limited parking near Children's Medical Tower.
