NORFOLK, Va. – Dr. John Harrington, CHKD’s Vice President of Quality and Safety, has been named the recipient of the Greenberg-Serwint Award for Outstanding Leadership in Medical Education by the Academic Pediatric Association (APA) Region IV.
The annual award recognizes an exceptional medical educator who demonstrates sustained leadership in medical education, influences learners across multiple levels of training, and plays a vital role in developing the next generation of educators and pediatric clinicians. Harrington, a longtime pediatrician who also serves as medical director of CHKD Medical Group, was selected from a highly competitive pool of nominees across the region.
“Receiving this award is deeply meaningful to me,” Harrington said. “Throughout my career, I’ve tried to model the following principles of leadership in medical education: finding joy in sharing expertise, being available, accountable, and authentic, and approaching every challenge with enthusiasm. I believe in treating everyone as a valued member of the team, continuing to learn, advocating for those around me, and respecting every level of learner. I’m honored to carry these values forward as we work together to shape the future of pediatric care.”
The award was presented on February 28 at the APA Region IV Conference in Charlottesville.
