Central Line Care at Home: Setting Up a Clean Environment
Download and Print this Information
Do not store your child’s items for central line care in the same drawer or on the same shelf as items needed for ostomy and/or G-tube care.
- Keep items for line care in a clean and dry, well-ventilated area
that is away from pets and young children. - Check items routinely for expiration dates. Discard expired items.
- When you are ready to use your supplies, select a clean and well-lit location to prepare your supplies.
Consider the following:
- Do I have a surface for supplies that can be cleaned with a disinfectant wipe?
- Is the space away from food and not in a bathroom?
- Is this space away from pets?
- Will my child be comfortable in the space during line care?
Depending on the child’s age, developmental level, and type of line care being provided, you may want to have a support caregiver help assist with the procedure.
