Patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) are transitioned to the adult program at age 21. Dr. Joshua Sill of Sentara Medical Group is the adult program director of the cystic fibrosis program. The adult program started in 1992 and is an accredited adult care center through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Care Network.

Adults 21 years of age and older are seen in the outpatient clinic at CHKD on Tuesday afternoons each month. Joining Dr. Sill in the rotation of seeing adult patients with cystic fibrosis are associate director of the program Dr. Matthew Bernens, Dr. Michael Hooper, and Dr. Arpana Mahalingashetty who are affiliated with the Sentara Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Specialists program.

The same multidisciplinary team that serves the pediatric CF program provides services for the outpatient adult program along with pulmonary fellows, residents and medical students.

Adults requiring hospital admissions will be admitted to Sentara Norfolk General, which is right next door to CHKD and part of the Eastern Virginia Medical School campus. During admissions to Sentara Norfolk General, the pulmonary physicians and fellows that provide outpatient care in the CHKD Adult CF Program serve as consultants in the inpatient care of the CF patient.
