Eric Lowe, MD, serves as the Chief Clinical Academic Officer at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) Health System and is the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) at Old Dominion University. In these roles, he provides strategic oversight of clinical, academic, and research activities across the health system while continuing to provide patient care.

Background

Dr. Lowe has dedicated his career to advancing the care and treatment of children with cancer. He previously served as the Division Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at CHKD, where he helped bring leading-edge therapies and clinical trials to children throughout the region. He has also held leadership roles with Children’s Specialty Group and contributed to numerous hospital committees.

A recognized leader in pediatric oncology research at the local, national, and international levels, Dr. Lowe served as CHKD’s Principal Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a global consortium dedicated to advancing research in childhood and adolescent cancer. He was the study chair for an international clinical trial in lymphoma and currently serves on the National Cancer Institute’s Pediatric Leukemia and Lymphoma Steering Committee (PLLSC), where he helps design and prioritize clinical trials for pediatric hematologic malignancies. Internationally, Dr. Lowe has served on an international Data Safety Monitoring Committee and held multiple roles on scientific committees for major lymphoma symposia, while also supporting the broader research community as a grant reviewer for leading national and international funding organizations.

Education

Dr. Eric Lowe earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and went on to complete his medical doctorate at Emory University. He finished his pediatric residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas and completed his fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. During his fellowship, he earned a Master of Science in epidemiology, focusing on clinical trial design. He is a Professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at EVMS. Dr. Lowe has been with CHKD and EVMS since 2004.
