Personal Statement

The team at CHKD makes you feel like part of the family. There is a lot of enthusiasm in the community about the hospital and the high-quality care we offer to children in the region. CHKD offers its medical residents opportunities to provide complex care while encouraging autonomy in preparation for a career in pediatrics.

Bio

After finishing her residency at CHKD, Dr. Shum decided to join the CHKD team as a hospitalist. With a strong interest in allergies and immunology, Dr. Shum says she finds working in hospital medicine rewarding because it’s a privilege to take care of children who need inpatient care.

Originally from Nebraska, Dr. Shum considers herself a true Midwesterner at heart. Despite growing up in a landlocked state, she has discovered a love for sailing since moving to Norfolk. Dr. Shum has a passion for adventure and learning new things whether it’s climbing, hiking, gardening, a foreign language, or a new instrument.
