Personal Statement

Since my residency interview with CHKD, I knew this was a special place. The people have a unique aura, a warm charisma, and an eagerness to help. As a resident, the attendings and professional staff always made sure you had the necessary tools and guidance in every step of the way to achieve our goal of becoming the best pediatricians. As a provider, it’s evident how the hospital and its satellites offer high quality care, not only in the medical aspect, but in the social and emotional aspects as well, bringing a holistic service to our little patients. I'm honored that after graduating from residency, I can remain a part of the CHKD family at CHKD Urgent Care in Chesapeake.

Bio

Dr. Saavedra-Collado was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Her undergraduate degrees are in Pre-Medicine and French, with a minor in Philosophy, from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. Her medical studies were in her hometown at Ponce Health Sciences University.

Dr. Saavedra-Collado moved to the United States for residency and says she has come to embrace the new culture and people. Since moving, Dr. Saavedra-Collado has developed a love for gardening, especially Virginia hydrangeas. Bunnies, chickens, and cats are her favorite animals, and she used to have chickens back home.

Dr. Saavedra-Collado is particularly fond of advocating for Spanish-speaking families. She likes to think as herself as a liaison for them to find the care their children need, without fear of language barriers.
