Undergraduate RN, LPN and MA Student Rotations
CHKD promotes the education of nursing and medical assistant students by hosting both individual students and student groups in a number of our inpatient and outpatient areas.
Patient Care Services, our hospital-based units in the main hospital, offers placements for RN students.
Physician Practice Management, our hospital-based and decentralized primary care and specialty clinics, offers placements for RN, LPN and MA students.
Graduate Nursing Programs
CHKDHS (Facility) does not coordinate graduate nursing student clinical placement requests. The graduate nursing student is responsible for securing a preceptor and location independently. Please do not contact practice managers or educators within the facility. Students are encouraged to network through professional and personal contacts, such as colleagues and professional nursing organizations. When a student has secured a preceptor, the practice/department and/or clinical education coordinator will approve/deny the request and if approved, partner with the student to ensure a school affiliation agreement and required documentation are in place.
Communication and Next Steps
The facility coordinator will communicate all steps for undergraduate student requests with the school coordinator. Students may not directly reach out to the facility coordinator, or other CHKD staff, for placement requests.
General Information for School Coordinators
A school affiliation agreement is required for all placements. If your school does not have a current school affiliation agreement (SAA) specific to the discipline you work with, please complete this form to initiate the process. This process typically takes a few months to complete.
All communication for placement requests occurs between school coordinators and facility coordinators. Students may not contact any other CHKD staff member regarding student placements or requests.
Every effort is made to find a placement, but a limited number of spots are available for each rotation/area.
School coordinators should be well versed in the requirements of the Faculty/Student Profile Form that will be submitted after a placement has been confirmed. Special attention should be given to the number of PPDs required, signature areas, etc.
The school year is defined as July 1-June 30.
Any of the following actions put schools at risk for rejection, suspension or revocation of placement privileges: poor standing with the state board of nursing, board of nursing active judgments and actions on file, failure to comply with policies, standards, requests of the department/division in which the student is placed, any deviation from the standards set forth in the school affiliation agreement, poor student clinical performance or attitude, or substandard faculty communication or preparation. All placement privilege permissions are at the discretion of the facility coordinator.
