Guidance for Funeral Arrangements

As a grieving parent/guardian, we at CHKD do not want you to feel isolated or alone in the process of funeral planning. Please know that our bereavement coordinator and/or chaplains can explain the process and help you with questions, concerns, etc. at your own pace.

Your child will be safe at CHKD until you make arrangements; we will continue to honor your child and your family through the journey of grief.

CHKD works with all funeral homes regardless of location. This list is for reference only. You may certainly use any funeral home you would like. This list is not exhaustive, nor are you limited to choose a funeral home on the list. If you go with a funeral home in the area that is not on this list, consider letting us know so we might include them for future reference. View the list of funeral homes.

Please Note:

A funeral home does NOT have to be selected right away. Typically, we ask families to coordinate with the funeral home when they are ready and then alert the bereavement coordinator with their choice. Selection of funeral homes can be done at any time, preferably within one week of your child's death. If you need additional help beginning the process, please feel free to call our office with questions.

Once a family/parent/guardian chooses a funeral home to work with, they will communicate with the bereavement coordinator. In turn, the bereavement coordinator will relay funeral information to the hospital to release your child to the appropriate funeral home. In all things, we aim to honor and respect your child and your privacy as well as your grief. If there are specific needs (religious, spiritual, or cultural) please let us know so that we may accommodate them.
