Vice President, Chief of Surgery
Duties
In this role, Dr. Obermeyer works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other leaders to improve the quality and safety of surgery at CHKD Health System facilities.
Background
- Dr. Obermeyer has been performing
surgery at CHKD for over 15 years and is an associate professor of surgery
and pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
- He serves in a variety of leadership
positions at CHKD focusing on surgical services including the surgical
authorities committee, surgical performance improvement committee, and the
surgical executive committee.
- He has collaborated with surgeons
from Switzerland and was instrumental in bringing the non-surgical
vacuum bell option to CHKD for select pectus excavatum
patients and is the lead investigator for vacuum bell therapy at CHKD’s
Nuss Center.
- Dr. Obermeyer is the principal
investigator on several pectus excavatum research studies at EVMS in collaboration
with CHKD's Nuss Center.
- He has a wide variety of published
articles and has been a guest lecturer for numerous surgical meetings in
the U.S. and abroad.

Education
Dr. Obermeyer is a board-certified pediatric and general surgeon. He graduated from the
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and was the former chief resident
in general surgery at Western Reserve Care System. He completed a
fellowship in advanced laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery at the Baylor
College of Medicine and a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Arkansas
Children’s Hospital. He also has a degree in mechanical engineering from
Ohio Northern University.
