Pharmacy Resident Benefits
- Salaries for Residents
Salaries for residents are proposed upon acceptance into the residency program. All residents will be paid on a biweekly basis. - Vacation and Leave
Residents can earn up to 160 hours of paid time off (PTO) annually. PTO can be used for vacation time, sick time, and time off for interviews. The amount of vacation that can be taken at one time will be determined by the program director. - Holidays
Residents will receive a paid day off for five holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and either Thanksgiving or Christmas). - Professional Liability Insurance
Professional liability insurance covering medical activities clearly defined within the scope of the residency program is provided by the hospital at no cost to the resident. - Life, Disability, and Health Insurance
Life, disability, health, dental, and vision insurance are available to residents through the hospital. - Professional Meetings
Registration and travel reimbursement will be provided for the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and the PPA Annual Meeting. - Certifications
Residents will receive American Red Cross BLS, and PALS training in preparation for code and trauma response. - Parking
Free on-site parking will be provided to all residents.
Resident Wellness and Resiliency
Pharmacy resident wellness and resiliency is supported throughout the year within the Residency Program and Pharmacy Department, as well as the Health System, including but not limited to:
Residency Program
- Residents are given a day off following their staffing weekend to recover mentally and physically after working a long stretch of days in a row
- Residents are scheduled one office day per month to help balance workload for longitudinal projects and assignments among monthly rotations
- The Pharmacy Resident Wellness Series provides monthly activities for residents and preceptors to promote well-being and prevent burnout
- The Pharmacy PHUNN card introduces residents to activities, restaurants, and other locations in the surrounding area to encourage relaxation and work-life balance
Pharmacy Department
- The Pharmacy Department organizes occasional social gatherings at local venues as a great way to get to know each other outside of work
- The Sunshine Committee coordinates celebrations, theme days, decorations, and other activities to elevate the atmosphere within our work environment (residents are welcome to join the Committee to help with planning too!)
CHKD Health System
- CHKD offers a number of resources to promote well-being for all employees including mindfulness apps, monthly virtual well-being sessions, and a yearly wellness carnival
- An employee gym is available at the TowneBank Tower for CHKD (in downtown Norfolk) with free 24/7 access for all employees
- CHKD, along with Children’s Specialty Group and Eastern Virginia Medical School, has a “Support U” team to offer peer-to-peer reassurance and support for medical professionals coping with ongoing stress from a difficult experience involving adverse events and challenging patient outcomes
- An Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which offers free confidential counseling services, is available to all employees as well
