New Graduate RN Residency Program

A Unique Program for New Graduates

CHKD’s new graduate RN residency program equips newly graduated nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary for the transition from student to professional nurse. Through peer support and mentoring, the program fosters personal and professional relationships, enhances nursing knowledge, and refines the nursing skillset.

The program offers interactive sessions to help newly graduated nurses become engaged, innovative, and evidence-driven nursing professionals. Using a curriculum based on our professional practice model, the program also includes a roundtable series that brings various members of the interdisciplinary team together to promote teamwork and collaboration.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Individuals dedicated to the quality of care for neonatal and pediatric patients.
  • Newly licensed, registered nurses with less than one year of experience.

Program Requirements

To support professional and clinical growth, RN residents will receive an individualized schedule designed by their department education team. They must attend scheduled educational offerings and career development sessions while simultaneously working alongside a trained RN preceptor. Additionally, RN residents will work in teams to design and present an evidence-based practice project by utilizing the Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals.
