Before becoming a physician assistant, Martin was an elementary school teacher in the Williamsburg James City County school system. She also taught science at an outdoor education center for the Houston (Texas) School District. In the summers, she worked at summer camps, was part of conservation projects in national parks, and facilitated wilderness leadership experiences for teenagers.
