Bio

Dr. Hubbard is professor of clinical pediatrics at EVMS and director of its Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning. His educational background includes degrees from the University of Virginia (BA psychology/biology), Eastern Virginia Medical School (MD), University of Pittsburgh (MPH), and the Marshall Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary (JD). He has been at EVMS and CHKD since 1981.

Dr. Hubbard is heavily involved in the EVMS curriculum, serving as the chairperson of the medical education committee, directing the clinical curriculum for medical students during their first two years, and having oversight of educational programming in the clinical skills center. He has served in variety of leadership capacities in both the school and hospital during his tenure.

Recently, Dr. Hubbard headed a team of researchers that developed a teaching stethoscope that can be used to add programmed heart and breath sounds to standardized patients, which led to a patent and a commercial product under development.

Dr. Hubbard has published widely in medical journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, PediatricsAmerican Journal of Diseases in Children, and Trauma. He has served on the editorial board of Trauma and is currently a reviewer for Pediatrics and Academic Medicine. He has directed grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Stemmler Educational Fund from the American Association of Medical Colleges.
