Recreation Therapy Internship

Recreation Therapy at the Children’s Pavilion of CHKD is offering an internship for those interested in a career as a recreation therapist. Please note that if you are selected, your college or university must negotiate a contract with CHKD before the internship start date.

This internship provides quality training for future Therapeutic Recreation Specialists through a 560-hour program.

Spring Internship 2026

Eligibility and Program Information

The Children’s Pavilion of CHKD is an acute inpatient psychiatric program for children and adolescents experiencing mental health emergencies, including imminent risk of harm to self or others, or severe disruption of daily living.

The Integrative Care team includes an interdisciplinary group of professionals in Recreational Therapy, Child Life, Art Therapy, and Music Therapy.

Application Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Have completed all prerequisite coursework.

  • Be affiliated with a college or university that has a standing affiliation agreement with CHKD.

Interview Process

If your application meets the admission criteria, you will be contacted regarding next steps, which may include an interview. A personal interview is preferred; however, a virtual interview can be arranged if needed.

If selected, your college or university must negotiate an affiliation agreement with CHKD prior to your start date. If the agreement is not finalized, the internship offer will be withdrawn.
