Hematology/Oncology Journey Bead Program

Celebrate every step of your child’s healthcare journey, honored through meaningful beads that tell their unique story of strength, care, and resilience.

About the Journey Bead Program

The Hematology/Oncology Journey Bead Program is a meaningful way to recognize and honor each child’s unique journey throughout treatment. The program provides children with an opportunity to tell their story through colorful beads that represent the milestones, challenges, and accomplishments throughout their care.

Children who choose to participate will receive a bead string and a special keepsake box to store their beads. These beautiful keepsake boxes are handcrafted and generously donated by the Tidewater Turners of Virginia.

Throughout clinic visits and hospital stays, children will receive colorful and specialty beads that each represent a different aspect of their care. A distinctive bead is awarded for milestones such as clinic visits, pokes, procedures, hospital admissions, transfusions, and many other experiences throughout their journey. Over time, the bead string becomes a one-of-a-kind testimony to each child’s individual experience with chronic illness. More than a collection of beads, it serves as a visual reminder of their strength, courage, resilience, and hope. Each bead represents a challenge faced, a milestone achieved, and another step forward on their journey. Looking back at their completed string allows children and their families to reflect on how much they have overcome and celebrate the incredible perseverance they have shown along the way.

The Hematology/Oncology Journey Bead Program is supported through The Deitemeyer Family Fund.
