The neonatal follow-up clinic at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters provides developmental assessments of infants at high risk for developmental delays based on diagnosis or complications during prenatal or neonatal life. The age range of children followed is birth to three years of age.

Referrals are recommended for, but not limited to the following diagnosis:

Evaluations

Evaluations are performed by board certified physicians in neonatal-perinatal medicine or developmental pediatrics. Our staff includes nurses and nurse practitioners trained in developmental assessment as well as hospital educators and social workers. Lactation, nutrition, and audiology services are available on an on-call basis.

Visits normally include an updated history, physical and neurological examination and developmental assessment. Parents are provided an interpretation of results at the time of visit and a written report is sent to the child's primary care provider. Recommendations and appropriate referrals for developmental support are provided. Infants and toddlers are re-evaluated every four to six months, depending on the need of the child, until the age of 3 years.
