About Congenital Scoliosis
Congenital Scoliosis is caused by vertebrae that are not properly developed in the first six weeks of embryonic development. This can result in improper formation of vertebrae or improper separation of vertebrae.
Some patients may also have cardiac, neurological, and renal impairments that will require additional evaluations. There is no known cause.
Evaluation
Your specialist may order a variety of studies to evaluate your child’s spine. These tests may include X-rays, MRI or CT scans. Once your child’s tests are complete, your specialist will review the plan of care for your child.
Treatment
Patients may not initially require any treatment, but will need to be monitored by their physician.
It is extremely important to see their specialist as directed. Your specialist will decide which form of treatment is most appropriate for your child.
